Record Video

An independent controller manages WAV101's video recordings. All its recording types are continuous. That is; once a recording starts, another will follow when its time limit has been exceeded. Furthermore, any ongoing recording will be truncated when manually stopped or during a profile changeover. Keep in mind that Record Video's settings have been designated as profile specific. Therefore, its output files will be saved to the active profile's folder.

Producing a video file is a multi-step process. While recording, file fragments are temporarily held in WAV101's cache folder. Once completed, the fragments are encoded into its final form. The output file is then deployed by the file manager. Having said that, any ongoing recording is simply abandoned during shutdown. Alternatively, the recording must be formally stopped and be allowed to complete the remaining steps. In any case, the process may be monitored with either the Settings dialog's Dashboard page or the Event Viewer. More to the point, once the cache’s queue is cleared, an event message will be dispatched signalling that the encoding has been finalized and that the file has been deployed.

WAV101 offers three types of video recordings. They are defined as;

  • Real-Time
  • Time-Lapse
  • High-Speed

Configure the audio device to have an audio track added to the recording. Keep in mind that audio tracks can only be applied to real-time recordings.

Video recording filenames are automatically generated to ensure that files are always listed consecutively and chronologically. As a point of reference, the naming convention uses the following pattern;

<Type>_YY.MM.DD-HH.mm.SS.FFF.<Extension>

Where;

  • <Type> is either RT; Real-Time, TL; Time-Lapse or HS; High-Speed.
  • YY.MM.DD are the 2-digit, numerical values for year, month, day; respectively.
  • HH.mm.SS.FFF is the timestamp; which uses a 24 hr clock, down to the milliseconds.
  • <Extension> specifies the file type's intended use and encoding.

Especially note that the File Encoding setting is applied to all recording types, including alarm event recordings. If desired, video frames may also be further scaled to balance storage constraints.
