SMTP Mail processes all outgoing mail messages generated by the application. Its role includes sending event notifications to the application administrators, mailing invitations to authorized users, as well as, responding to password recovery requests from remote users and Password Protected Setup. Be aware that SMTP Mail settings have been designated as application specific. Application specific settings only need to be set once and; if required, may be maintained for all profiles simultaneously.
Especially note that SMTP Mail is simply a mail client. It must interface to a mail service provider to have its mail messages delivered from end to end. To ensure the widest possible compatibility, SMTP Mail supports SMTP, SMTPS and Start TLS protocols. Include an account and its password if the SMTP server requires authentication. Keep in mind that WAN access may not be required for in house operation. However, at a minimum, a mail server should be installed on the host PC. In either case, a firewall outbound rule will be required. Consult your systems administrator for greater detail on this topic.
WAV101 includes several methods for testing end to end connectivity. Keep in mind that the Test Notification link is the most comprehensive of these. It allows a test message to be sent to all enabled administrators simultaneously. Alternatively, administrator specific messaging may be verified using the Contacts List's context menu. That is; right click any administrator entry to access the Test menu.
In this context, SMS Messages are expedited alerts that compliment event notifications. They generally describe the trigger event in 160 characters or less. However, they are only dispatched if explicitly enabled on a per administrator basis.
